Aqaba:
When the sun, sea and fiction come into contact with an ancient ambience you will probably find your self in the setting of Aqaba. A complex beside the red sea fuelled a long time ago, by shipments rolling In and out of Aqaba’s port. The city is such a lovely place to visit. Warm temperatures, swaying palm trees and a place for relaxation, what’s not to like? Aqaba almost seems to change colour throughout the day along with the sunlight and surrounding mountains that are accompanied by a gentle northerly breeze. There is such a diverse range of activities also to be enjoyed in Aqaba. Water skiing, fishing parasailing, you name it, you are more than likely to find it within the city. A must see when visiting Aqaba or the surrounding area, is the stunning coral reefs found in a whole new world under the crystal-clear waters a little further down the coast. From delicate pinks to vibrant blues and greens this is not something to be missed. This is one of the things that makes Aqaba so unique to anywhere else in Jordan. In addition to the water sports available the archaeological side of the city is also very good. Places such as the Aqaba Fort and the world’s oldest church hold such interesting stories and intriguing history. The world’s oldest church is one of the most exciting recent discoveries. Archaeologists believe it to be the world’s oldest known purpose-built Christian church. It was built out of mud-brick stone in the late 3rd century AD and measures 26 by 16m.
Diving and Snorkelling in Aqaba
You will experience some of the world’s best snorkelling and diving along the 20km of beautiful coastline between Aqaba and Saudi Arabia. If you are a novice or beginner to snorkelling then Aqaba is the perfect place to start with crystal clear waters and the reef starting directly from the beach, which eliminates the need to take a boat. If you would like to dive however and still a beginner, then almost anywhere along the coastline would be fine along as you are accompanied by an instructor. One of the clear perks of these reefs is the condition of it compared to other reefs that can be heavily bleached meaning that you do not get the vast colours and biodiversity that Aqaba has to offer. This stretch of coastline especially Aqaba was fairly slow to get going in terms of the diving world, which is why it has avoided the severe deuteriation that as mentioned some other reefs have unfortunately suffered. With this in mind the 20,000 odd divers that come here each year are aware of the Conservation team that protect a large proportion of the area to keep it in the good condition that it is in. Wherever you go your experience will not be different. You will see a huge vision of perfect coral with some of the most amazing colours imaginable. The fish are also a thriving community within and they will be joining you too adding to the beautiful colours it creates. Whether you decide to snorkel or dive you will have a fascinating and surreal experience once underwater
